- Cypress Viaduct (Freeway 880) Collapse Investigation (1989 Loma
Prieta Earthquake): GeoKinetics personnel were involved in geotechnical
and seismic response analysis to investigate the causes and mechanism
for the collapse of the elevated freeway during the 1989 Loma
Prieta earthquake.
- Effects of Pacific Coast Highway Construction and the Stability
of Seabluff: Working for Caltrans, GeoKinetics' personnel supervised
the excavation of both vertical and horizontal exploratory borings,
completed a geophysical survey, installed and monitored several
types of ground movement instrumentation, completed an extensive
laboratory testing program, and performed physical modelling as
wells as limited equilibrium and finite element stability analyses
to evaluate the impact of highway cuts associated with the widening
of Pacific Coast Highway in the vicinity of Malibu, California.
- Hicks Canyon Road Realignment Study and Stabilization, Orange
County, California: GeoKinetics personnel provided embankment
evaluation and design services, grading observation and testing
services, and installed instrumentation to monitor the lateral
deformation of a roadway located above a 70 foot high 1:1 temporary
construction excavation.
- Evaluation of engineering properties associated with the use
of fiber reinforcement in concrete slabs and pavement.
- Los Angeles Metro Rail Project, Los Angeles, California: GeoKinetics'
personnel provided both geotechnical and environmental engineering
investigation and design services for the Red Line Mid-City section
of the Los Angeles Metro Rail Project. Geotechnical aspects of
the project involved performing stability analysis and providing
construction and dewatering specifications for cut and cover construction
operations associated with station facilities as well as for tunneling
operations associated with the underground rail segments. The
environmental aspects of the project involved identifying, assessing,
and mitigating potential environmental problems in advance of
construction. These environmental problems included high concentrations
of methane and hydrogen sulfide gas in the subsurface along the
alignment, localized groundwater plumes associated with releases
from various facilities along the alignment, and extensive natural
deposits of oil and tar in the La Brea area of the alignment.
- Canyon Estates Development Pavement Evaluation, Mission Viejo,
California: This project involved the completion of several dozen
in-situ plate loading tests on the roadway sub-base using a computer-controlled
testing system designed and fabricated in-house.
- Evaluation of Cause of Heated Oil Pipeline Rupture, Long Beach,
California for the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power.
This project involved the development of a 18" diameter triaxial
cell to test samples of coated pipe under simulated burial conditions.
- Construction of 10-Mile Olney to Noble Water Supply Pipeline,
Noble, Illinois for the State of Illinois.
- Identification of Procedures for Evaluating and Predicting
Pipeline Coating Design Life for the Gas Research Institute, Chicago,
Illinois.
- Development of Testing Equipment and Procedures for Evaluating
Pipeline Coating Life Expectancy and Operating Limits for the
Raychem Corporation, Menlo Park, California.
- Assessment of Cause of Distress to 6-foot Diameter Pump Discharge
Manifold Piping, Harbor Channel Pump Station, Tustin, California.
- Design of Power Plant Cooling Tower Foundation at the Four Corners
Generating Station, Laughlin, California.
- Evaluation of Electrical Transmission Tower Design Procedures
and Performance for Southern California Edison.
- Design and Construction of Park Road Extension, Mt. Carmel,
Illinois.
- Evaluation of boring, jacking and related construction procedures
and potential for distress to residential structures associated
with La Canada - Flintridge sanitary sewer system for the City
of La Canada - Flintridge.
- Hydraulic design, structural evaluation, and construction supervision
for several pile supported bridges, Wabash County, Illinois.
- Design and installation of reinforced concrete caissons and
grade beam to support unstable roadway, Big Rock Mesa, California.
